Year 9s visit Shrine of Remembrance

Late in Term 3 our Year 9 students attended the Shrine of Remembrance as part of our study of World War 1 for Humanities. The tour was titled ‘Spirit of Anzac’ and focussed on what life was like for Australians in the First World War. Students were able to handle uniforms and everyday equipment to enable students to empathise with soldiers to understand what life would have been like 100 years ago. The program also examined the legend of ANZAC, the values it embodies and its contemporary relevance to ideas of national identity. Students also viewed images and original artefacts in the Galleries of Remembrance and Sanctuary in order to understand the past.
